The encroachment department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has recently launched a demolition drive in Airoli due to persistent non-compliance with issued notices. Despite prior notifications, the concerned party failed to respond, prompting the civic body to take action under the directives of Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Shri Bhagwat Doiphode.

The demolition targeted an unauthorized construction located at F-216, Sector 3, Airoli, reportedly owned by Shri Anil Popat Patil. This structure was erected without any prior approval from NMMC. Consequently, the department had previously served a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, urging the owner to voluntarily dismantle the structure. However, the owner did not comply, leading the civic body to partially demolish the structure earlier this week as part of a broader anti-encroachment campaign.

The on-ground operation was supported by Assistant Commissioner and Divisional Officer Shri Sunil Kathole, Junior Engineer Shri Sandeep Mhatre, along with officers and staff from the G Division of Airoli and the encroachment police squad. The demolition involved the use of one gas cutter, two hammers, and a team of eight laborers.

Officials have indicated that such enforcement actions will continue with increased intensity to curb illegal constructions within NMMC’s jurisdiction. This action serves as a reminder to property owners to ensure legal compliance before undertaking any construction activities. With the administration signaling stricter crackdowns ahead, more demolition drives can be anticipated in areas with rampant illegal construction, particularly under the purview of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act.
